THIRTEEN MOONS Curriculum  ​"This practitioner’s guide is a tool to help the practitioner construct lessons around the thirteen moons of Ojibwe, Cree and Mohawk cultures. The sample lessons can be adapted to each nation. Within the guide are all the tools for each of the First Nations represented, Ojibwe, Cree and Mohawk. It also includes the days of the week, thirteen moons, numbers one to thirty-one and the seasons representative to each culture in both English and each nation’s language."

FEBRUARY --------------

           February 21  - International Mother Language Day -   to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. This day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999. The UN General Assembly then welcomed the proclamation of the day in its resolution of 2002

           March 21 - International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination -  "...seeks to abolish racism and xenophobia..."
           March 21 - International Day of Forests -  "...seeks to celebrate forests and raise awareness about the importance of trees. This day aims to educate the public about the vital role that forests and trees have in sustaining and protecting humans..."

           April 13 - International Day of Pink in Canada  "   The Day of Pink, sometimes referred to as the International Day of Pink, is a Canadian anti-bullying awareness campaign held on the second Wednesday of April. On this day, people are encouraged to wear an item of pink clothing to raise awareness of bullying, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia..."
           April 13 - Day of Pink - Website  "...Discrimination takes many shapes, whether it’s based on race, age, disabilities, gender or sexuality. The 2SLGBTQIA+ community is no stranger to the bullying and violence that stems from hateful beliefs..."
           April 17 -  Feast of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha - "Kateri is known as the “Lily of the Mohawks” and the “Beautiful Flower Among True Men.” She is recognized for her heroic faith, virtue, and love of God and people, in the face of adversity, bullying, and rejection, as well as her close connection with the natural world around her."
           April 22 -  Earth Day -  "...seeks to highlight and promote efforts dedicated to the protection of the environment. As we enter the 21st century, we face many environmental crises including global warming, deforestation, endangered wildlife, shortages of potable water, and widespread pollution..."

JULY --------------

            July 9 - Nunavut Day "...is a public holiday in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. It is celebrated on July 9 to commemorate the anniversary of the day when the present-day boundaries of Nunavut were defined...."
           July 23, 2023 - World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly - World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly takes place each year on the fourth Sunday in July  "...gives recognition to those who give their wisdom and help build a better future for younger generations. This holiday was established in 2021 by Pope Francis in hopes of closing the gap between the elderly and younger generations. The theme chosen by Pope Francis in 2022 was is “In Old Age They Will Still Bear Fruit.” ..."
            July 30 - International Friendship Day -  "...is a day to appreciate and promote friendships. One goal of this observance is to bridge the gaps between race, color, religion, and other factors which keep humans from fostering friendship with one another..."

          August 9th - - UNESCO Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 
          August 15 - National Acadian Day -  "...is observed in Canada annually on August 15. It celebrates the culture and heritage of the Acadians who are the third largest subgroup of French Canadians, after the Quebeckers and Franco-Ontarians. It was created in 1881 during the first National Convention of the Acadians that took place in Memramcook, New Brunswick....

SEPTEMBER --------------

             September 11, 2022 - Grandparents Day  -  Every year on the first Saturday after Labor Day in September - "... serves to honor and recognize the contributions of grandparents in our lives. Grandparents are a society and a family's ties to its past as they pass on important values, beliefs and ideals to future generations. Their wisdom and love are recognized every year on the first Saturday after Labor Day in September..."
           September 27  to October 1st - 2021 -  TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION WEEK 
is a 5-day national event that will continue the conversations from Every Child Matters. Important conversations including the truths of the Indigenous treaties, First Nation, Métis and Inuit land claims, and the residential schools system. This online event will provide historical workshops, exclusive video content, and activities for students — all supported by artistic and cultural performances by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists.
          September 30 - National Day For Truth And Reconciliation  "...The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation) was added to Canada’s list of statutory holidays for federal employees in 2021. It was created to honor the victims of the Canadian Indian residential school system..."

            November 7 - Inuit Day - International Inuit Day, also known as International Circumpolar Inuit Day, is a holiday that was created to celebrate Inuit and amplify their voices.
            November 8 - Indigenous Veterans Day - Video ... Honouring Indigenous (First Nations, Aboriginal, Metis, Inuit) Veterans. This video highlights and honours the many contributions of Indigenous Veterans and also recognizes the roles and efforts of many Indigenous communities across Canada during the great wars.

            December 6 -  National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada   "...also known as White Ribbon Day. The day commemorates the events of 1989, when an armed student Marc Lépine murdered 14 women and injured 10 others in the name of “fighting feminism”. Today this event is known as École Polytechnique massacre and it is commemorated annually on December 6 since 1991..."
            December 9 - Genocide Prevention Day - "International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime seeks to raise awareness about the Genocide Convention..."
            December, 12th  - Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe 
            December, 12th  - National Day of Prayer in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples.
           December 17-20 2021  Indigenous people to meet with the Holy Father...  This pastoral visit will include the participation of a diverse group of Elders/Knowledge Keepers, residential school survivors and youth from across the country, accompanied by a small group of Bishops and Indigenous leaders. Planning for the delegation is ongoing and further details will be announced when they are available.​
